Sarah Palin is my new favorite thing to blog about

Leslie Sanchez is apparently the only person on CNN's payroll who thinks this selection by McCain was a good idea. I love how Gloria Borger was too dumbfounded to even assign a rating:

Now, a photo of Gov. Palin looking nakey in her beauty pageant days, and More Fun Facts!!! (all true)!

Naked photo:

UPDATE: This is probably totally untrue, but a rumor out there on the internets says Palin's youngest son Trig, born in mid-April, is actually the child of her teenage daughter Bristol, and that Palin's "pregnancy" was a cover-up. I know, I know, I know - BUT when you look at the timing laid out in this story, it's pretty sketchy. Apparently Palin announced to the world that she was pregnant in early March and said the baby was due in mid-May. That means she announced her pregnancy at 7 months. 7 months? And no one could tell?

I know, I know, I know. I'm just saying... this guy said it too, at the time...

I'm JUST saying...

If republicans think that Hillary Clinton Democrats and independents are going to vote for a woman that wants to outlaw abortion under all circumstances, they're foolin' themselves. The majority of the country wants Rove v Wade to stand, her stance on abortion is extreme - a deal breaker for a large number of women. Secondly, I have to question McCains sincerity and her intelligence. Why would she agree to serve with a candidate that has a zero rating on womens issues from NARAL? THis candidate also made horrendously derrogatory comments about his wife. Womens rights would suffer under such backward beliefs - we need to move forward, not back. The selection of Ms Palin made the Obama Biden team stronger. This selection appears to be a desperate move - she's nothing but a "token" - it's blatantly obvious. They're insulting women by assuming that simply putting a uterus on the ballot would lure women voters. Bad choice, and another bad decision by Mccain.

I think Sarah Palin is a great choice for McCain - it shows the McCain administration certainly isn't going to be 4 more years of Bush. As for experience - O'Bama is running for President on less. And Palin is certainly more of a change than Biden!

Plus, I'll trust a mom w/5 kids, one of which is an infant w/special needs, to care more about health care and education issues than pretty much any of the guys in either party.

Uh.... okay, two things.

1) Wow, people I don't know are commenting on my blog? That's awesome! That's never happened before! Who are you, anonymous posters? Are you people I actually know, or has this blog gained readers beyond my circle of friends? That's mad cool.

2) To anonymous commenter #3: who on F are you? Why would a woman with 5 kids be more qualified to deal with health care and education issues than a man with 2 (Obama) or 4 (Biden)? And why can't you spell Obama correctly? If you're one of those hacks shilling for the campaign who copy-and-pastes nonsensical talking points into comments sections, please get off my blog.

Amazing how quick all the libs are to pile on this woman who has beaten the odds every step of the way. Most women in America are looking for a woman they can relate to... Someone who has 5 children, for example. Someone who has gone to their ballgames, taken them to the doctor, and tried to balance family and career. That's what she is.

She has run the state of Alaska as chief executive for two years, which is two more years experience running anything than Obama has. She has put the people of Alaska first, and has approval ratings of 80-90%, which is unheard of.

I predict America will really like her "no BS" brand of politics, and she will be a huge asset in the general election.

I'm a Republican but not anymore. McCain, you will not use me or my vote. I hope women realize that this is just another trick.

I thought McCain was a war veteran. This seems like a man who was afraid of losing. I'm really disappointed.

We are commenting because we need a place to say things where we aren't overwhelmed by other posters, such as on Slate or Huffington Post. This seems like it's deserted enough...

I think McCain decided that if he's going down, he might as well go down while pulling the Republican Party in a new direction. I have some respect for that.

Anonymous said...

To erik, I like your name for McCain......McSame! Who is this woman that Mr. McSame chose to be his VP? I have never even heard of her! What would happen to the country if they actually win the election and McSame doesn't survive the 4 years? We are going to have someone whose political experience comes from running Alaska? How quickly the US would fall apart! Maybe I'll move to Canada...........hahaha

Erik said...

Hey Anon - I like good politics, whether it be Repub. or Dem. I like to see good debates on important issues! I was actually looking forward to McSame picking Romney or Lieberman so that there would at least be some decent debates about serious issues. But this pick just has the stink of Rove. A political stunt. What are her stances on Iraq? Well she was quoted as saying "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq". Yikes! If he wanted a credible woman candidate why not Kay Bailey Hutchinson? I could have respected that choice! But to put someone 2nd in line to the Oval Office with absolutely no foreign policy experience/opinions is just irresponsible. I have been shaking my head all day, very poor first important decision by McSame & it will cost him the election IMHO

you democrats are all morons; Barack has a VP who would cough out anything and them realise what he said while Barack cannot say anything without a lot of thinking because he does understand or know how to handle the situation - so he starts like all these preachers who preach to the poor, desperate and hopefuls or oh those who feel these are entitled to government handouts - beating about the bush. Remember most if all all black leaders do not end like Mandela but like Mugabe & consorts - and witness most of the black leaders in USA - where most of them end. You cannot trust them. Palin is more qualified than the three bureaucrats on the tickets. Having leadership skills is the only qualification to be the leader of America. Being a bureaucrat does NOT count as leadership experience, and it does not develop leadership skills! Leading a 5-person senatorial staff, or a crew of community organizers (huh?!), is NOT real leadership experience. Palin is the ONLY person on EITHER ticket with executive leadership experience. When compared to Barack’s leadership experience (none), it’s laughable that people are disparaging Palin’s experience as a mayor and governor.

CupcakeMonster said...

I'm just going to say one more thing to the last commenter: do you even know what community organizers do? As a volunteer community organizer for my church I'm pretty offended by your implication that it's not a job that requires leadership skills. Don't say things when you don't know what you're talking about.

Meanwhile, this is awesome. Keep it coming. And take a break from the ideological vitriol every once and a while to look at the pretty cupcakes.

How disgusting to suggest, even in jest, that someone caring for down syndrome child or any child for that matter, is just covering up someone elese pregnacy.

As for the rest of your article, her abortion stance will certainly draw the attention of Pro-life women. I realize in your young, but jaded life, you can't imagine that there are large number of pro-life women breathing, but the fact is for the last 30 years women split about evenly on the topic.

Young or old, how about using the brain in your head instead of the crap pouring out of your mouth. For the record I'm pro-choice, but old enough, and wise enough, to realize that not everyone shares my opinion. Guess what, they vote too.

Speaking of leaders in the black community, Marion Barry recently said, "Politics ain't tiddlywinks."

I'm not sure what that quote really means, nor am I sure what Anonymous could possibly mean by the comment that Obama starts his speeches by beating the bush. Last night we heard one of the most eloquent, pointed, intelligent speeches I've ever heard. Beautiful.

President Palin...I can't believe it. Does McCain really believe Clinton supporters are that studid. This should fire them up even more to go to Obama. And good ol' Fox News. Critical of Obama's experience have no problem with Palin. And of course they are conservatives who always support any republican who spends billions and billions of dollars, leaving the US weaker and a huge debt to our children. The rich want tax cuts at any cost.

McCain should now pick Mickey Mouse for a cabinet position (get the young vote), Andy Griffith (for the senior vote), Sylvester Stallone (another comeback kid)and Mel Gibson (played a maverick in Lethal Weapon). All of them including Palin could go in on a house cleaning service because they all have at least 3 houses. Mickey has 3 if you count the Epcott Center.

I came across your blog off of CNN and I am listening to the Hannity lies and James Dobson pandering for McSame, I can not perceive this pick. She seems really nice, but no she does not have more experience running anything, other than maybe a family, more than Obama, she served 20 months as Governor, Obama was in the Senate for almost four years. My blog links out to her wiki as well as Baracks. I think this weakens the McSame ticket and it is straight up pandering to the woman block disenfranchised with Hillary out.

Okay that semi-naked pic of Barack redeemed you semi-sexist attempt to find pictures of Sarah!

I apologize.

I thought Obama's speech was good. But I don't really agree with his outlook on life. It is just so negative. Everyone he knows seems to be in some terrible situation. I don't know anyone like that. They lose jobs and get unemployment until they find another job. And get food stamps. I just don't know people who are in some condition that is so bad like he describes.

Except Health care. We do need to do more on that. And we will. Both parties are doing it.

This a good country. I don't know why he always has to act like this is the worst place on the planet. Then he turns around and says he couldn't be where he is anywhere else... I think he plays on people's emotions. And I think he has risen too fast and we need time to find out more about him. And he is keeping reporters from investigating him. That is really troubling! If he is in public life he can't have any secrets. But he wants secrets. That isn't good.

Woman or not, her views are just as wrong and destructive as Mcsame and Bush.
Point blank, he picked her to pander to Hilary supporters who may not be smart enough to realize that this "woman's" policies will not benefit them in the least.
furthermore, HE MET HER ONE TIME BEFORE SELECTING HER....ONE TIME!!!
It screams desperation and it's an insult to women everywhere. insult....

"she does not have more experience running anything, other than maybe a family, more than Obama"

Of course she does. Obama was a STATE SENATOR! My next door neighbor is a STATE SENATOR. That pays like $25,000 because it is a small little loser job!

She was a Govenrer! The buck stops here I'm the top dog the one everyone blames if things go wrong Governer. It is Alaska but it is the top job not one of many many Senators. Who don't ever have to make decisions if they don't want to. And on anything controversial he voted "present". What kind of guts does that take?

And before she was governer she was a mayor. Another top job.

Obama has never been top job at anything.

If McCain goes down I don't think having a person who was a mayor of a small town only 20 months ago makes any sense to protect our country and families. For someone who supports a strong national security, how could McCain take the chance of leaving it in the hands of a small town mayor. He did it just to get the women vote and my wife who is a strong Hillary supporter, sees right through it.

If you watch the video announcing her selection, the first 3 minutes she's pretty good. The longer she speaks, you start hearing the shrillness of her voice, and she's so inexperienced she starts clapping when she's lauding McCain write near the microphone and you hear her flesh slapping ring. She seems to have some good qualities and could be a rising star, but as of now, unpolished at best and therefore lacking the gravitas and accomplishments for the office of VP and with McCain's health issues too close to being President given her inexperience coupled with a her undistinguished intellect.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. With only months before the election there is no way to bring her up to speed on giving speeches. We'll see if she's better at debates, but with such little experience even the best presentation style it will be awful

Okay, I'm not impressed with McCain's delusional pick for VP. WTF, so what if she's a mother of 5; she doesn't have any foreign policy experience and we as Americans need someone with such experience. What are her views on improving education and the health care system? And her views on abortion...OMG, you've got to be kidding.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard about McCain's VP pick was that he is seriously desperate to win. Is McCain so senile that he picked someone who doesn't have the experience as the other VP choices? Senility, what a wonderful thing.

Another thing that came to mind after hearing about Miss Sarah was that "is she really qualified" to step up to the No. 1 spot if McCain could no longer run the country. We're so screwed if this scenario comes to play out in reality.

I have to agree with one post that mentioned we would be stepping backward rather than forward if McCain is elected prez. Women have come along way over the last 3 decades that it would be detrimental to the women of America if McCain is elected. Is she really supportive of women or is she part of the "good ol' boy" club?

Sorry, I'm not impressed.

Palin initially SUPPORTED the bridge to nowhere that she now claims she opposed...
So there goes her "Against the Grain" cred.

Here's what she told the Anchorage Daily News on October 22, 2006, during the race for the governor's seat (via Nexis):

5. Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?

"Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."

Anonymous said...

Patti, the VP has exactly one job! Can you name it without looking?

Obama has exactly 143 days of experience in the Sentate. The rest of the time he's been campagining for president. Where is the equal criticism of Mr. Obama's experience? Not to mention, he's running for the "Top Job".

Ms. Clinton has 8 years in the senate and has done much better than I anticipated. Grat's to her. However, we hear that only "stupid women" would even consider supporting Palin, an apparantly capable and bold woman from a blue collar background who has taken on her "own party" bosses for supporting and particpating in corruption. Says a heck of alot about her character to me. Some of these same kind of characteristics have been assigned to Hillary. Why the double standard?

Obama gives pretty speeches without any real substance. McCain really doesn't bring anything special to the table. Surely, we could have done better on both sides.

cupcakemonster, I'm terribly sorry you've been inundated with idiots because of your notoriety from CNN. You probably don't want to deal with driveby's from people that don't even care to leave their name or debate any of the salient points in McCain's VP pick.

You even have some racist people here espousing some horribly offensive vitriol. This is one of the reasons I have lost a lot of faith in people, and why I believe that the public discourse has become nothing more than chatting about non-issues, and politics are conducted as hit-and-run attacks, much like the Obama muslim smears.

Not all people are stupid or evil as some of these people are. I just thought it might cheer you up to hear from a relatively sane person after all of the insanity I've seen here.

Wow...what a double standard the Democratic Party has. Don't vote for a woman (Hillary) even though she is more qualified but vote for Obama who attended a racist anti-american church for 20 years???

This Country is doomed. If he wins we become more racially divided and if we lose we become more racially divided and all because of people who pull the race card like you.

It's not about his color. Really he isn't even black. He is white too. The media just calls him African American because it sells more than stating that a half breed is running for President. It takes away from his blackness.

Give me a break with the white sheet thing. I am not racist. I am angry that the Democratic Party looked beyond Hillary Clinton and forced her out behind the scenes.

Barack Obama is not Presidential material. And to tell the truth...he wouldn't even be a Senator had he not hired a bunch of college kids to void the signatures on all of the candidate's petitions.

Having children does not make her a woman of women. She could be "Mommy Dearest" for all we know.

She goes by the old school saying "do what's right" - even if it hurts you. Like say oh... forcing a victim of rape/incest to have a child. Or continuing to ruin the planet we all have to live on to keep drilling for oil so companies like her hubby's can make enough money to buy their supply of respirators in the future.

Even setting that aside, she is also one of those "doth protest too much" sorts. Oh yah I fight for ethics - as long as my hands aren't directly dirty, you got nothin' on me. Sounds all too familiar like the prostitute clean up of a political john or one antipedophile advocate texting to little Blly on the side. I wonder if she hired another cop to "rough up" her ex-BIL somewhere on the side too. More hard core hypocrite crap.

She is a "yes sir" lady that follows the good ol' boys rules. That's what beauty pagents teach you. She won't be a vp with a skirt, she'll be McSame's Whitehouse/Work Wife.

Palin is going to be the Tom Eagleton of the GOP.

There are lingering doubts about the story she is telling about the birth of her latest child, who has Down's Syndrome, and who was reportedly born a month prematurely. In reality, it wasn't Palin herself who had that child, it was her 16 year old daughter.

Palin didn't announce that she was preggers to her staffers for several months even though nothing sells in politics, especially in winger land, like motherhood.

Then eight months pregnant, she says, she flew to an energy conference in Texas, where, during the night, she started leaking amniotic fluid. Her water broke and even though she supposedly knew that the baby was going to have Down's Syndrome, which also brings with it possible severe complications, she made the speech and then, after getting the okay to FLY FOR 12 HOURS BACK TO ALASKA despite the threat of sepsis, which could have killed both her and the child, she landed in Seattle, talked to the physician, who said it was okay for her to make her connecting flight back to Alaska.

She arrived in Alaska and gave birth the next morning.

Now my mother is a former pediatric nurse (retired in 2000 after about 30 years on the job) and she told me this story is "fishier than tuna" and finds it "unbelievable" that a physician would allow her to get back on a plane rather than urging her to immediately seek medical attention. At the very least, Palin acted negligently and my mother thinks that the physician did not tell her to get on that plane.

Here is likely what really happened:

At 4 a.m. Texas time, she gets a cellphone call that her daughter's water had broken. Palin had to keep the story congruent with what was happening to her daughter, so she told everyone her water had broken when that was not the case. She called her daughter's physician before she got on the plane and flew to Seattle and then called him again before flying on home. The daughter gave birth the next morning.

Oh, I didn't mention one thing: Palin's daughter had been pulled out of school five months before she gave birth, ostensibly for "mono." In a lot of neighborhoods in America, "mono" is a code word for "I got knocked up" or "I did some time in a correctional facility" among juveniles. How convenient.

Palin had to maintain this charade because she didn't want her Christian Right followers to know that her daughter had given birth out of wedlock and sinned. She has thus lied to the media and the American people and she will be greeted like Linda Smith (the murderer) by her evangelical following, who she also lied to, if she is found out.

The selection of her by McCain also follows a pattern of behavior. He has always been highly impulsive, his native impatience marked by his refusal, for example, to read flight manuals while he was in the Navy. He was protected by his father, a big shot admiral, and could get away with it. He womanized like it was going out of style and crashed at least four airplanes (millions in taxpayer money, also making him a worse pilot turned pol than Bob Dornan) before he was shot down by the North Vietnamese. But even there, he was treated relatively gently compared to the treatment meted out to other and lesser known prisoners.

His first wife saw him through his convalescence and then he jumped into an affair with his current wife. His impulsiveness raised its head again after meeting Palin just once before naming her his VP nominee.

Once she is found out and forced to step down, that will make McCain's presidential bid a Campaign to Nowhere. Neither of these two has the integrity to be the leader of the free world. And the above demonstrates that amply.

As for the physician, who has backed up Palin's story, there are one of either two motives at work here: one, he or the medical group he might be a part of didn't want to lose a high powered client or possible further state business. It will be interesting to see if any Alaska state money ends up in this guy's bank account for state-related things other than treating Palin.

Secondly, he could want to be the next Bill Frist and run for office and Palin's connections could help him a lot there.

Whatever the case, both her and he are lying, I believe.
